Power BI Development

Power BI development for the reports and KPIs you check every week. We connect your accounting, CRM and ERP data and define each measure once. The reports then refresh on a schedule.

Power BI development starts with the data model

We define the relationships and DAX measures first, once. Every report then uses the same revenue, margin and stock.

Connect accounting, ERP and CRM data to Power BI

Codnity has worked with Moneo, Jumis, Horizon, Ozols, Xero and QuickBooks, plus project tools and REST APIs. Each source connects through its API, a database link or a file export.

Power BI reports that stay fresh, secure and documented

Power BI development includes the upkeep. We set up scheduled refresh, workspaces and row-level security, and document how it all works. Then we test each report as the people who will use it, not only as an admin.

  • One version of the numbers

Each metric is defined once, so every team reads the same figure.

  • Less manual reporting

Scheduled refresh replaces the weekly export and rebuild. Sending the reports out can be automated too.

  • From KPI to detail

Click a figure to see the accounts and transactions behind it.

  • Access by role

Each person sees only the data their role allows.

Power BI development case studies

For DigiMart, we built a Power BI model on Moneo data, pulled through its API. For a Nordic loyalty-tech company, we combined five currencies and built a KPI board for six departments.

Nordic loyalty-tech SaaS

Power BI for a Nordic loyalty-tech SaaS

Business problem
ARR was rebuilt in spreadsheets every month, across five currencies. Versions disagreed, and company KPIs were put together by hand.
What we changed
One calendar, one currency table and one ARR structure, shared by two Power BI reports. A late exchange rate falls back to the latest one.
Outcome
ARR can be checked on any day. The KPI board for six departments refreshes itself, actual against target.

Technical details: two reports on one shared model · five currencies consolidated · ARR movement traced to its cause

DigiMart (CCLM SIA)

A Power BI stack for DigiMart

Business problem
Sales, purchasing and stock data lived in Moneo. Every answer started with exports stitched together in spreadsheets.
What we changed
A Power BI model that pulls from Moneo through its API. One star schema with five fact tables, six dimensions and 32 measures, each defined once.
Outcome
The exports stopped. Margin, unpaid invoices and daily stock availability per SKU are on one page the whole team reads.

Technical details: adjusted gross profit with additional expenses · a custom DAX engine for stock availability and days with no stock

Data analytics agent

When a KPI moves, ask the data analytics agent why

Power BI covers the KPIs you defined. When one moves and someone asks why, the data analytics agent answers in plain language, from the same data model.

  • Answers why a number moved
  • No new report or scope for a new question
  • Every answer shows its figures and sources

Power BI development FAQ

What is included in Power BI development?

Power BI development covers the data connections, the data model with its DAX measures, and the reports. Refresh, access by role and documentation are part of it too. We start from the questions the reports must answer and the KPIs you track.

Why do our Power BI reports show different numbers?

Different numbers usually mean the same measure is calculated in several places, each with its own filters or dates. We define each measure once in a shared model, so every report uses the same definition. Before launch, we check the totals against your accounting system.

Can you connect Moneo or other accounting data to Power BI?

Yes, we connect Moneo and other accounting systems to Power BI. For DigiMart we built a Power BI model on Moneo's API, and we have worked with Jumis, Horizon, Xero and QuickBooks data too. Before quoting, we check the API access, the data structure and how often it can refresh.

Do we need a data warehouse as well?

Not always: Power BI alone is often enough for a few clean sources. A data warehouse helps when several systems must be joined, history must be kept or many reports share one model. It is also what our data analytics agent reads from.

Can Power BI reports refresh automatically?

Yes, Power BI reports refresh on a schedule if the source can be reached through an API or a gateway. We agree how often each report refreshes and who is alerted when a refresh fails. Every report shows when its data was last updated.

Can different people see different data in Power BI?

Yes, Power BI can show each person only the data their role allows, using row-level security. We set up the roles with you, such as finance, sales and regional managers, and test each report as those users before launch. Workspaces and sharing are documented, so access stays clear when people change.

Which Power BI reports do companies build first?

Most companies start with the Power BI report they rebuild by hand every month. That is usually cash and P&L for finance, revenue by customer and product for sales, or stock availability for operations. Once the model is in place, each new report is quicker to build.

How much does Power BI development cost?

The cost of Power BI development depends on how many systems we connect and how much modelling the data needs. We look at your sources and current reports first, then quote a defined scope. Licences are quoted separately from our work.

How long does a Power BI implementation take?

A Power BI implementation takes as long as its sources need: one report on an accounting system is much quicker than joining an ERP, a CRM and custom APIs. You get a timeline once we have seen the systems. We build in phases, so the first report is in use while the next is built.

Can Codnity help optimise an existing Power BI model or slow report?

Yes, we review the model, the DAX and the refresh setup, then fix what slows the report down. The usual causes are heavy calculated columns, inefficient DAX and refreshes that reload all the data every time. We measure the report before and after, so you see the difference.

Do you provide Power BI licences and Microsoft 365 setup?

Yes, we are a Microsoft partner through Pax8, so we can supply Power BI Pro and Premium Per User licences together with Microsoft 365. Licences are quoted separately from our work, and we help you pick the type each person needs.

What is the difference between Power BI and a data analytics agent?

Power BI shows the reports and KPIs you defined in advance, while a data analytics agent answers the questions that come after them. When a KPI moves, you ask the data analytics agent why, in plain language. Both read the same data model, so the numbers agree.

Let's look at your Power BI reporting

Bring the reports you rely on and the systems behind them. We'll look at both and suggest a realistic first step.
